Saturday November 15, 2014 postponed from Thursday due to funeral of a friend.
About 5:00pm yesterday my left shoulder locked up. It was fairly painful, so I took 2 advil and forced my arm up over my head. You could hear the tendons sliding over the bone spurs, but it did free up my shoulder. It also caused it to ache until I took 3 tylenol before bedtime at 8:00pm. When I got up at 7:00am this morning it was still very sore.

I know that my shoulder affected my bench this morning but I am going to have to live with what is. not with what I want. The dead lift is going well and may have to become my new signature lift.

Sunday Dec 7 2014 Well, I have thrown in the towel. My left shoulder is about useless now and my right one is catching up way faster than I would like. AS soon a January rolls around and I switch from Obama care to medicare I will schedule the shoulder replacement for my left shoulder. So I am on break for a while. It has been a good run. Thanks for the friendship and support.

February 6, 2015
Well I found out I had to have two "old Guy" Surgeries before we could address the shoulder.
I had the first one on the 15th of Jan, It was a hemroidectomy. I had to have this done first because my Hemoglobin (red blood cell count) was down to 9 when 27 is normal. This means I was bleeding to death out my butt. This one is done and apparently it was very bad. It took two weeks to get off the narcotics for pain. All is well now.
The second procedure is scheduled for this Monday the 9th of February. It will be a Hydrocelectomy. Google it if you really must know.
Lets just say that in my youth most of my decisions were determined below my belt. Now that I am 65 most my decisions are once again determined below my belt. Only for far different reasons.
When the doc says I can go into surgery again I will have the shoulder replaced. Probably in early to mid March. He says the rehab will take about a year.
For those of you who always promised to pray for my soul, if you would switch to my well being I would much appreciate it. When this is over we can apply greater emphasis on my soul once again. Thank You from my heart!

Thursday the 26th of March @ 6:45am I report to Faquier Hospital for a TSR (Total shoulder replacement). This will end powerlifting for me. I asked the doctor if I would be able to lift heavy weights adain with the new shoulder and he said,
"See if you like the surgery and rehab. If you do then go ahead and lift heavy again, because you will be back for surgery again if you do." (Remember a doctors opinion of heavy is a far cry from a powerlifters opinion of heavy) Pretty plain to me. So, I will be in a sling for six weeks with no use of my arm allowed. then I wil be in shoulder Rehab for six to 12 months. I will then be able to do the ordinary things with my arm that other people do every day. These are things that I cannot do at this time.
I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to excel at a sport that has been very rewarding in so many ways. The friendships and memories I have been rewarded with are priceless.
I thank each and every one of you for everything you have done and been. I am 65 years old now and it is time to take on something new. I am looking into taking some pastry cooking classes. If Im going to be weak and fat I might as well be well fed and happy.

Thought I would give an update on my shoulder surgery. First, there is a tear duct connected directly to the shoulder. Some one asked me if I cried in rehab? Hell, I cry on the way to rehab. Actually, the insurance company says I am rehabbed, however the surgeon says to keep doing all the stretches and excercises at home for another 6 months. I can now touch the top of my head, close the car door, adjust the shower head, and carry 20 pounds with my left arm. I can curl 10 pounds and over head press 2 pounds with my left hand. These are all new PRs. We used to say at the gym that we did not care what you used to do, all that mattered was what you lifted this morning. So I have come to realize that I am now really retired and have accepted that I really am just an old fat bald guy. My new method of impressing the ladies is to reach in my pants and pull out my big fat wallet. My wife says that it doesn't work any better than any other way I once used. That reminds me, I owe everything to Pat (my wife) for any recovery I have made or am making. I could not have made it through the last eight months without her. Honestly I probably could not have made it through tha last 42 years without her. I really miss lifting heavy and competing but the surgeon stresses that this is no longer an acceptable part of my life. If I return to heavy weight training I will ruin all that he did and have to go through it all over again with a much lesser chance of a good outcome. People ask me if lifting caused the initial problems with my shoulder, The answer is no. My shoulder deteriated due to osteo arthritis, The success of the surgery was helped by the hardness of my bones and the condition of my muscles. Both of wich were due to weight training.
