In the 5 years that I have been competing, the weights involved have been enough to cause bodily injury if the lift goes bad. I do a great deal of lifting off and spotting for the bench press. I feel that I am responsible for the lifters saftey and well being. Therefore if I feel it is time to put my hands on the bar, that is what I will do. If the lifter has a problem with this, then he or she is welcome to ask someone else to take responsibility for his or her saftey. It is very simple.

I agree, keeping the lifter safe from harm is first thing to do. This is in training or in the meet. It is really important when wearing equipment the bar sometimes goes wherever it wants.
