An update from the Arnold; as told by Madvig
"Forgive me as this meet was very intense and I only saw so much.
Venue is just awesome.. People came watch and the place was packed.
Rick Folwer did a great job announcing. Rob Keller runs a great meet.
First off Jim Pope is a bad ass. Even though we were not in the same divsion (he master, I open) he and I went back and forth. He went to beat me by 2 1.2 kilos but could not lock it out. Very close fight.. age means nothing in Powerlifting.
Mike Neal was far and away the best lifter of the day. He had a 750+ squat and 560+ bench.. not sure of his deadlift.
I took 2nd to Mike with a 1817. .. Took MN state squat, bench and total raw records.
Right behind me was Jim Cahill with the best deadlift of the day of 716.
Tony reid in the lighter classes pulled 620 with awesome power.
I will try and gather more.. but my body is hurting good. Awesome event.. If I get invited back next year.. I am going to go for sure."
Jim..., way to represent!!!!
Congrats to all!!! Sounds awesome!!!

I just saw the results on the USAPL forum. Jim Pope won the Masters and Ken Ryder was second. Both are great lifters from Virginia. Great Job! Mike Hedlesky won the the Juniors.
Sioux Hartwig- Gary won the Female. Awesome job!!!

Lets not leave out Rory Howell who also took the silver in the 75K Open.
I worked the warm up room and ran the numbers for both Jim and Rory. As any of you who have done this will know, I feel like I was hit by a bus yesterday. I could not be any more honored than to have been able to help these guys in any way possible.
Jim, Ken, and Rory were world class in all they did. The judging was consistent but very tuff. Rory was called for depth on two of his squats, something that he cant remember ever happening before. His last dead lift attempt was 501. He pulled it all the way but then over exaggerated putting his shoulders back which can and did cause his knees to unlock. Ken was called for not locking his knees on a dead lift. Also something that Ken cant remember ever happening before. Both these guys handled the calls like the sportsmen they are.
Jim missed his last bench because it was too heavy by about 2 pounds and his last dead lift because it was too heavy by about 1 pound. He just couldn't get his shoulders back with the 722.5 lbs. Three raw prs for Jim, two for Ken, and one for Rory. Tremendous day!!
One Gold, Two Silver, at "the Arnold" Wow!!

More reports have been posted describing the action at the Arnold. It looks like the USAPL and the lifters have had great success. Like the lifting, the crowds have been big.
Something for all lifters to consider as they plan their meets for the rest of '08; where will you be next year?
Don't forget the Raw Nat's the USAPL will hold this summer. It will be great to see some of our lifters from the Mid-Atlantic region there too.
This old dog has an itch..., I beginning to think it is time to get off the porch! And run with the big dogs once again. ;D

You should do it. I am going back to Chiropractor and try to see if can squat and deadlift again and get some arch in my back for the bench. If not at least the bench is coming around. i would love to hit USAPL Raw Nationals in July and 100% Raw after that.

To All, I want to say "thank you" for all the messages. But the biggest thanks goes to Ron for the awesome job he did on Friday during the contest. He took care on it all. The only thing I had to do was lift. He was able to keep up with three lifters and didn't miss a thing. I've been on that side of lifting and it is much easier to be the lifter. My big numbers are in part because of the awesome job Ron did in the warm up room. I hope I can return the favor some day...Thanks again
